I seriously can’t get enough of combining chocolate and cardamom, it tastes incredible. Plus, who doesn’t like to eat chocolate for breakfast?
This porridge packs a nutritional punch alongside a slow releasing energy which make it a perfect way to start the day. The main ingredient is Buckwheat which helps to control blood sugar levels, is great for cardiovascular health as it lowers both cholesterol and blood pressure and it’s a great source of dietary fibre which aids digestion.
A quick heads up…you need to soak the buckwheat overnight so bear this in mind when planning this breakfast!
Chocolate & Cardamom Porridge
1 cup buckwheat groats
3 tbsp cacao powder
5 cardamom pods
250ml milk of choice
- Put the buckwheat in a bowl, cover with water and set aside overnight. In the morning you’ll find the water is all gloopy so rinse well under running cold water
- Put the buckwheat, cacao powder and milk in a saucepan, stir well to combine and put on a medium heat for roughly 20 minutes
- Empty the contents of the cardamom pods into a pestle and mortar and grind down to a coarse powder then add to the saucepan
- After 20 minutes, test a buckwheat groat to check it’s soft. If it’s ready serve into a bowl and top with with some of your favourite ingredients
