Mulled Apple Juice

I’ve always been a fan of mulled wine, there was nothing I liked more than a trip to the German Markets back home (Birmingham not Germany) for some Gluhwein. I always thought mulled wine had to be made with red wine, how naive I was…white mulled wine is simply delicious!

This recipe started as an alcoholic drink but when we decided on it being a film, Hannah and I guessed we’d get a better result if we weren’t drunk during the shoot. So, it became mulled apple juice however you can easily swap the juice for wine if you’re a complete lush.

Mulled Apple Juice
Serves 4

1 litre of apple juice / white wine
4 cinnamon sticks
1 orange
4 star anise
4 cardamon pods
1 tsp vanilla extract

  1. Bruise the cardamon pods by gently hitting with a rolling pin
  2. Use a vegetable peeler to roughly peel strips from the orange
  3. Pour the apple juice or wine into a saucepan, add the rest of the ingredients and gently warm over a low heat for approx 15 minutes
  4. Lift out the cinnamon sticks, star anise and cardamon pods and divide between four glasses, pour over the warmed juice and serve hot!

Enjoy! (responsibly)
