I’ve always been a fan of mulled wine, there was nothing I liked more than a trip to the German Markets back home (Birmingham not Germany) for some Gluhwein. I always thought mulled wine had to be made with red wine, how naive I was…white mulled wine is simply delicious!
This recipe started as an alcoholic drink but when we decided on it being a film, Hannah and I guessed we’d get a better result if we weren’t drunk during the shoot. So, it became mulled apple juice however you can easily swap the juice for wine if you’re a complete lush.
Mulled Apple Juice
1 litre of apple juice / white wine
4 cinnamon sticks
4 star anise
4 cardamon pods
1 tsp vanilla extract
- Bruise the cardamon pods by gently hitting with a rolling pin
- Use a vegetable peeler to roughly peel strips from the orange
- Pour the apple juice or wine into a saucepan, add the rest of the ingredients and gently warm over a low heat for approx 15 minutes
- Lift out the cinnamon sticks, star anise and cardamon pods and divide between four glasses, pour over the warmed juice and serve hot!
